First look at Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate

I’m glad it didn’t take long to get some screenshots for this 3DS/PS Vita project from Armature Studio. It looks just like how I’d expect a Metroidvania-style Batman game developed by Metroid Prime veterans to look — it’s also a bit Shadow Complex-y, which I’m fine with because I always wanted that title on a handheld.

Game Informer’s current issue (subscription required) has more images and all the details, but here are the basics:

set in the eponymous Blackgate Penitentiary during a prison riot

mostly a 2D sidescroller, though you’ll interact with foreground/background elements

freeflow combat system similar to console games (possibly Shinobi 3D/Spyro: The Eternal Night-esque?)

scanner-style “detective mode” that pops up an overlay outlining enemies who see or can’t see you, uncovering clues/secrets, and analyzing dangerous situations (remember the first few pages of the “Hush” arc?)

potential for Metroid-style sequence breaking and fighting bosses in any order

Haven’t heard a single bad thing about this game yet, but we’re a long way from October.

REMEMBER ME—KNOW YOUR ENEMIES

Knowing your enemies within a game is not only essential for your survival but it’s also handy so you don’t walk into an a squad of foes blissfully unaware.Thankfully Capcom has made it easier to keep up with Nilin’s growing list of baddies in their latest trailer It’s Time to Fight.

This latest trailer, along with the beautiful Neo-Paris landscape, show that current-gen consoles still have plenty of oomph left and gamers are in for a treat when Remember Me drops in June.

Remember Me is a 3rd person action adventure where players take on the role of Nilin, a former elite memory hunter with the ability to break into people’s minds and steal or even alter their memories.

Remember Me will release on June 4 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. You can pre-order on Amazon.

Disney Closes LucasArts & All Current Projects Have Been Cancelled

Disney, which acquired Lucasfilm and LucasArts last year in a $4.05 billion deal, has shut down the legendary LucasArts division.

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games,” Disney informed Game Informer in a statement. “As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

While there are plenty of big budget titles hitting in 2013, one of the titles I look forward to most is Japan Studios “Puppeteer”.

Backstory:

Epic Games wowed many once again with it’s latest Unreal 4 demo titled, “Infiltrator” that premiered at GDC. Epic Games stated the deom was running 100% in-engine in real time, showing off UE4’s high-end rendering features as well as the latest tools.

I have to admit that this looks absolutely amazing and the level of detail being captured exceeds everything I have seen from them so far.
